My Herbal Start

My healing journey started when I was told by a naturopath that I had a problem with a leaky gut. This was about 6.5 years ago, and I was overweight, overwhelmed, incredibly depressed, and had so much rage I had plenty to share with my entire neighborhood. It was clear I needed to heal, and for me it all began with my body.

Herbs

I felt inspired to educate myself about herbs. I took the Family Herbalist course from the School of Natural Healing and it was awesome – like candy for my brain!

I think I inherited a love of all things natural from my maternal grandma. She was always giving us some kind of herbal supplement and telling us sugar was poison. I thought she was nuts when I was young. As I have aged, and become considerably wiser, I see now, what a sage she was and yearn for the missed opportunity of her mentorship.

The whole mindset of  nourishing the body with the whole plant resonated with me from the start. The School of Natural Healing was founded by beloved pioneer herbalist Dr. Christopher. I found out later my grandma had loved his formulas. The classes contained a tremendous amount of useful and practical information.  For the first time, I felt like I understood the basic workings of the physical body and it made sense.  Logically, if we don't feed the body the nutrients it needs to function well, then we will begin to have dis-ease.  Also, if we put toxins into the body and they have difficulty leaving the body in the preferred evacuation methods (colon, bladder) - the situation will, most likely, lead to serious dis-ease.

I've since earned the title of Nutritional Herbologist from the School of Natural Healing and would recommend this online school to anyone. If you feel led to study herbs more in depth, you can go all the way up to Master Herbalist through the School of Natural Healing.

Through the Family Herbalist Course, I gained a greater knowledge of Dr. John Christopher's herbal formulas.  In an effort to save money, we decided to mix our own batches of herbal formulas and then capsulize them. I ordered herbs from a company that I came to trust and love because of their business practices and their great efforts to remain true to the integrity of their herbs and spices. This company is Mountain Rose Herbs and they are still my favorite place to get my medicinal and culinary herbs.  Every time I have had a question or concern, I have contacted them and have found their protocols in working with the herbs are exactly how I would prepare my own herbs to retain their purity and efficacy. When Mountain Rose has not had the herbs available that I am needing, I also order from Starwest Botanicals, as they have good quality organic options as well. Links to both sites are at the bottom of every page on my site.

If you are wanting already packaged herbal capsules, I really like the company Pure Formulas because they have free shipping and I can usually find a 10% discount at www.retailmenot.com.
